Article for Professional Development Credit
All First Class sites can obtain two (2) hours of training by having staff read the article "Ramps and Pathways" and complete the "Study Guide" questions. Documentation should be discussed and shared with your Technical Assistant. To view the article, click here . The training credit will count as part of the 15 hours all First Class sites must provide teaching staff.
First Class Pre-K
Having appropriately trained staff is a priority for Alabama’s First Class Pre-K programs. The consistent delivery of high quality Pre-K services is contingent on providing personnel with regular high quality training. Lead Teachers and Auxiliary Teachers must attend 15 hours of Office of School Readiness (OSR) sponsored training each year plus 15 additional hours of training offered by the local program, for a total of 30 training hours each program year. For professional development purposes, a program year is from July 1 to June 30.
The Office of School Readiness offers multiple training opportunities for First Class Lead Teachers, Auxiliary Teachers and Directors. Teaching staff are mandated to attend 3 days of training offered during the summer, fall, winter and at the annual Pre-K conference. OSR Technical Assistants offer additional individualized training through modeling, conducting classroom assessments and facilitating visits to model Pre-K classrooms. It is through these high quality training experiences that Pre-K personnel are informed of the latest and best practices in the field of early childhood education.
